Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 2022 Esports President Cup is an opportunity to encourage the growth of Indonesia’s digital economy through the development of the gaming industry in the country.
“There are 52 million esports players in Indonesia, which is a large market share for locally made games to thrive. Local games can be competed gradually and enter tournaments,” Deputy for Economy and Creative Products at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry Muhammad Neil El Hilman said here on Tuesday.
The government has accelerated the development of the domestic gaming industry, especially in terms of human resource development, he added.
According to him, there are some challenges to the development of the domestic gaming industry, which pertain to human resources, digital talents, creative talents, game artists, game designers, and game marketing.
Therefore, human resource development programs have continued to be carried out. For instance, the Indonesia Game Developer Exchange (IGDX), which is a means of improving the quality of human resources in the Indonesian gaming industry and a showcase for locally made games.
Hilman further stated that expediting the development of the gaming industry is important.
For organizing the 2022 Esports President Cup, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has cooperated with the Communication and Information Ministry, the Youth and Sports Ministry, and the Presidential Staff Office (KSP).
“The key is how all game industry stakeholders can collaborate and synergize,” he said.
The 2022 Esports President Cup will feature three games created by Indonesians—Lokapala, the Battle of Satria Dewa, and the Battle of Guardians.
To widen the impact of the tournament on the creative economy, its organizing committee has collaborated with many creative industry players and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to present local products during the grand final, which will be held offline from November 11–13, 2022, in Jakarta.
