Puan Maharani: Implementing Strict Health Protocol at IPU

The other issue that will be discussed in the IPU is the encouragement of high women’s participation in gender equality. “IPU also puts forward the principles of inclusive participation and empowerment,” she explained.

Secretary-General of the House, Indra Iskandar, stated that some IPU delegates will have to transit in Jakarta due to the limitation of international flights to Bali. Therefore, he is going to manage the handling of protocol delegates and VIP delegates when they arrive at the airport. “As known before, the parliamentary chairpersons who travel abroad will get the same treatment as head of state or presidents,” he stated.

Indra assures the implementation of health protocol in the checking service for requirements and documents, swab PCR test, waiting room service, and transit handling of delegates. All airport service facilities and handling of delegates who stay the night will be managed according to standard procedure. Thus, they can quickly handle any circumstances, especially if a Covid-19 positive case occurs.

Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Agus Haryadi, said the airport authorities have prepared all services and facilities to support the arrival of IPU delegates. “We’re not only focusing on 20–24 of March but since three days before the event,” said Agus.

Meanwhile, the Vice President Corporate Secretary Angkasa Pura I, Handy Heryudhitiawan, confirmed that the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport authorities have prepared the international and domestic arrival scheme. “We prepare the arrival, checkpoint, and visa on arrival, and swab PCR test facilities,” he explained.

The airport authorities and other stakeholders consistently apply the health protocol to support the IPU event. All airport crews have assured the hygiene of public facilities, from the check-in counter to the toilet. “We also use technology for operational support and implementing health protocol through Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) that involves all stakeholders,” Handy added.

Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra, said the Bali police will supervise the health protocol after the deletion of quarantine obligation for international travelers (PPLN). He mentioned that compliance and enforcement should be adapted to government policy. (*)
